A segment-first feature includes adjustable thigh support for the rear seats, enhancing passenger comfort .

Under the hood, the Basalt is powered by two 1.2-litre petrol engine options: an 82hp naturally aspirated unit and a 110hp turbocharged variant. The turbo engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, while the naturally aspirated version comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Citroën claims fuel efficiency figures of 18 kpl.
The Citroën Basalt 2025 is the French automaker’s bold entry into the growing compact SUV-coupe segment in India. Designed on the CMP modular platform that also underpins the C3 and C3 Aircross, the Basalt brings a fresh aesthetic to the mid-size SUV market with its unique coupe-like silhouette and dynamic styling.
At the front, it carries Citroën’s signature split headlamp setup and a bold grille, lending it a premium and aggressive stance. The side profile is where the Basalt truly stands out, thanks to its sloping roofline and coupe-inspired rear design. At the rear, sharp LED tail-lamps and a sculpted tailgate add to its sporty appeal, while body cladding and stylish alloy wheels give it an SUV-like ruggedness.
Inside, the Basalt is expected to feature a modern cabin equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, and connected car tech. Higher trims are also likely to include premium touches like leatherette upholstery and ambient lighting.
In terms of performance, the Citroën Basalt 2025 is likely to be powered by the brand’s tried and tested 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, which delivers around 110 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The engine will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox initially, while an automatic option is expected to be offered later. It is also compliant with E20 fuel standards and BS6 Phase 2 norms.
Citroën has priced the Basalt aggressively to attract young buyers looking for something different in the crowded SUV market. Starting at ₹7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it undercuts several rivals while offering a coupe-SUV look at an affordable price point.
The Basalt is poised to appeal to those who want the practicality of an SUV and the style of a coupe, all in a compact and efficient package. Its launch is a key step in Citroën’s strategy to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-evolving passenger car market.
