Maruti Suzuki Fronx Developing a New Hybrid System for Small Cars
Maruti Suzuki is working on an affordable hybrid system for its small cars, with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx being the first model to get this technology. A test unit of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid was recently spotted in Gurugram, featuring a ‘Hybrid’ badge on the tailgate. This suggests that the hybrid version of the compact SUV is in its final testing phase and could be launched soon.
Unlike the Toyota-sourced hybrid system used in the Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing this hybrid system in-house. This new setup is expected to be different and more cost-effective, making hybrid technology accessible to a wider audience in India.

The test mule seen on the streets had no visible design changes apart from the ‘Hybrid’ badge. There was also no camouflage or special testing equipment, indicating that the vehicle is almost ready for production. While the exact details of the hybrid system are not confirmed, reports suggest it could be a series hybrid, where the petrol engine primarily works as a generator to charge the battery instead of directly powering the wheels.
Expected Launch Timeline
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is expected to launch in late 2024 or early 2025, possibly alongside the facelifted version of the SUV. The official details about fuel efficiency and power output are yet to be revealed. However, the hybrid model is expected to offer better mileage and lower emissions, making it a great choice for budget-conscious buyers looking for fuel-efficient alternatives.
