Mercedes-Benz EQS
Blending cutting-edge technology, unmatched comfort, and sustainable performance, the Mercedes-Benz EQS redefines electric mobility in the luxury segment.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS represents a bold leap into the future of luxury electric mobility. As the flagship electric sedan from the German automaker, it is positioned not just as an EV, but as a technological marvel, blending sustainable engineering with the renowned Mercedes-Benz opulence. The EQS is based on Mercedes’ dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA), making it distinct from other internal combustion engine models adapted into EVs.
From the first glance, the EQS commands attention. Its aerodynamic design is a crucial element not just for aesthetics but for performance and efficiency. With a drag coefficient of just 0.20, it is one of the most aerodynamically efficient production cars in the world. The sleek, coupe-like silhouette, integrated rear spoiler, flush door handles, and seamless glass surfaces enhance its futuristic look. The design isn’t merely about cutting air resistance—it also contributes to a serene, quiet cabin, reducing wind noise at high speeds.
Under the hood—or rather, under the floor—resides a cutting-edge battery pack that powers the EQS. Two versions are currently offered in most global markets: the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4MATIC. The EQS 450+ is a rear-wheel-drive variant with a single electric motor producing around 329 bhp and 568 Nm of torque. The EQS 580, on the other hand, features dual motors and all-wheel-drive capability, churning out 516 bhp and 855 Nm of torque. This gives the EQS 580 remarkable performance figures, going from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds.
The lithium-ion battery pack has a usable capacity of 107.8 kWh, enabling a WLTP-certified range of approximately 677 km for the 450+ and slightly less for the 580. This places the EQS among the longest-range electric vehicles currently available. Mercedes has also equipped the EQS with ultra-fast DC charging capabilities—up to 200 kW—which means you can charge from 10% to 80% in around 31 minutes at a compatible charger. Additionally, AC charging via an 11 kW onboard charger (optional 22 kW) allows overnight home charging.
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is a spectacular showcase of modern luxury and digital innovation. Dominating the cabin is the optional MBUX Hyperscreen—an expansive, curved glass panel stretching over 56 inches across the dashboard. It houses three separate displays: a digital driver display, a central touchscreen, and a front passenger display. Each screen operates with ultra-fast response times and integrates AI-driven functions that learn the driver’s behavior, suggesting navigation routes, climate control settings, or frequently called contacts.
Craftsmanship is evident in every inch of the cabin. High-quality materials like open-pore wood, leather, aluminum trims, and customizable ambient lighting elevate the luxurious experience. Mercedes has paid meticulous attention to noise insulation, making the cabin whisper-quiet—even when cruising at highway speeds. Advanced air filtration systems also ensure clean cabin air, reflecting the brand’s focus on health and comfort.
Rear seat passengers are treated to limousine-level comfort. With the long wheelbase, the EQS offers generous legroom and headroom. Optional features include massaging rear seats, electric reclining functions, rear infotainment tablets, and even a chauffeur package. Whether you’re driving or being driven, the EQS ensures a first-class experience.
Driving dynamics are equally impressive. The Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with AIRMATIC air suspension, offering a cloud-like ride quality. It adapts to road conditions in real-time, enhancing both comfort and handling. Four-wheel steering is another standout feature—at low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front, reducing the turning circle; at high speeds, they turn in the same direction for better stability.
Safety, as always with Mercedes-Benz, is top priority. The Mercedes-Benz EQS is packed with advanced driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and autonomous emergency braking. It also has a 360-degree camera, parking assist, and features Level 2 autonomous driving capability in some regions. The structural integrity of the vehicle, coupled with a low center of gravity due to the battery placement, enhances crash safety and handling.
In the Indian market, the Mercedes-Benz EQS is offered in both the locally assembled EQS 580 4MATIC and the fully imported AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ performance version. The EQS 580 is priced around Rs 1.60 crore (ex-showroom), while the AMG variant stretches above Rs 2 crore. Despite the premium pricing, it has seen good traction in India’s growing luxury EV segment, especially among early adopters and eco-conscious luxury buyers.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS isn’t just a step toward electrification; it redefines what a luxury sedan can be. It offers performance, technology, comfort, and green credentials in a single package. For those looking to transition to electric without compromising on brand prestige or creature comforts, the Mercedes-Benz EQS is one of the most compelling options on the market today.
