Renault Kardian: A Compact SUV Built for Emerging Markets

The Renault Kardian is a subcompact crossover SUV introduced in late 2023, primarily targeting emerging markets such as Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Built on the Renault Modular Platform (RMP), an evolution of the CMF-B architecture, the Kardian shares components with the third-generation Dacia Sandero and Renault Taliant.

The Kardian showcases Renault’s updated design language, featuring a robust SUV silhouette with sleek lines, a distinctive front grille, and C-shaped LED headlights. Its urban-trailblazer aesthetic is tailored for city driving while maintaining a rugged appeal. Inside, the cabin offers a modern layout with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and options like wireless charging and ambient lighting.

Powertrain Options

The Kardian offers a range of engine options depending on the market: A 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 125 hp and 220 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine delivering 114 hp, available in markets like Mexico. A 1.5-liter diesel engine producing 102 hp, offered in regions such as Morocco.

Production and Availability

Manufactured in São José dos Pinhais, Brazil, and Tangier, Morocco, the Kardian is tailored for specific regional markets. While not currently available in Europe, Renault plans to expand its presence in international markets with this model.

Expected Launch in India

Renault is expected to introduce the Kardian in India by June 2026, with an anticipated starting price of around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom).
