Citroën Basalt 2025: Stylish Coupe-SUV for the Urban Explorer

The Citroën Basalt 2025 has been launched in India, marking the brand’s entry into the compact SUV-coupe segment. Built on the same platform as the C3 Aircross, the Basalt distinguishes itself with a sloping coupe-like roofline, redesigned LED tail-lamps, and a dual-tone rear bumper. It is available in five monotone colours—Polar White, Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, and Garnet Red—with select options offering a contrasting black roof.

Inside, the Basalt features a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents. A segment-first feature includes adjustable thigh support for the rear seats, enhancing passenger comfort .​

Under the hood, the Basalt offers two engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 82 PS and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission; and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

In terms of performance, the Citroën Basalt 2025 is likely to be powered by the brand’s tried and tested 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, which delivers around 110 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The engine will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox initially, while an automatic option is expected to be offered later. It is also compliant with E20 fuel standards and BS6 Phase 2 norms.

Citroën has priced the Basalt aggressively to attract young buyers looking for something different in the crowded SUV market. Starting at ₹7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it undercuts several rivals while offering a coupe-SUV look at an affordable price point.

The Basalt is poised to appeal to those who want the practicality of an SUV and the style of a coupe, all in a compact and efficient package. Its launch is a key step in Citroën’s strategy to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-evolving passenger car market.
