TVS RTX 300 A Bold Leap into the Mid-Performance Segment Auto India Life

The TVS RTX 300 sets a new benchmark for Indian-made sportbikes under 400cc.

The TVS RTX 300 marks a significant leap for TVS Motor Company as it ventures deeper into the premium motorcycle segment. This bike, a result of the company’s collaboration with BMW Motorrad, is built on the same platform as the BMW G310 series. However, the RTX 300 is more than just a badge-engineered model. It represents a serious effort by TVS to establish a foothold in the mid-displacement performance motorcycle category, blending sportbike dynamics with everyday usability.

At the heart of the TVS RTX 300 lies a 312.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This engine produces around 34 bhp at 9,700 rpm and 27.3 Nm of torque at 7,700 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. It is designed for riders who want spirited performance without compromising on reliability or efficiency. The power delivery is crisp, with strong mid-range torque that makes overtaking and highway cruising effortless. Whether you’re commuting through traffic or hitting the twisty mountain roads, the engine feels lively and responsive.

TVS has tuned the RTX 300 to offer a balance between sporty handling and everyday comfort. The chassis, a trellis frame setup, ensures stiffness and lightness, translating to agile cornering and a planted feel at higher speeds. The suspension setup includes upside-down front forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. This combination offers confidence-inspiring ride quality, capable of absorbing road imperfections while maintaining poise during aggressive riding.

Braking duties are handled by a 300mm petal disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear, paired with dual-channel ABS for added safety. The braking system is progressive and strong, giving riders the confidence to push the bike without worrying about stability under hard braking.

In terms of design, the RTX 300 is sharp, aggressive, and unmistakably sporty. Its styling elements include angular LED headlights, aerodynamic fairing, and a sculpted fuel tank. The tail section is sleek, complemented by a split-seat setup and LED tail lamp. The overall design speaks of a bike meant to turn heads and stir emotions. TVS has ensured the RTX 300 looks and feels premium, aligning with the expectations of a global audience.

The instrument cluster is a fully digital TFT unit, offering smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. Riders can access turn-by-turn navigation, ride analytics, call and SMS alerts, and more through the TVS SmartXonnect system. Riding modes, traction control, and ABS modes (in higher variants) add a layer of sophistication that’s rarely seen in this segment. These features enhance the rider’s control over the bike while adding to the convenience of daily commuting.

Ergonomically, the TVS RTX 300 strikes a good balance between aggressive and upright. The clip-on handlebars are set slightly higher than on a supersport, and the footpeg position is moderately rear-set, allowing for a comfortable yet commanding riding posture. This makes it suitable for both spirited weekend rides and everyday city commutes. The seat cushioning is adequate, and the pillion seat, though slightly compact, is still usable for short city rides.

Fuel efficiency, a critical aspect for Indian riders, is quite respectable. The bike returns between 30 to 35 km/l depending on riding style and conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters, it offers a decent range that is sufficient for most urban and highway needs. The RTX 300’s refinement levels are also commendable; minimal vibrations are felt even at higher revs, thanks to good engine balancing and quality materials used throughout.

TVS has also emphasized after-sales service and accessibility. The service network is strong, and spare parts availability is widespread, keeping long-term maintenance relatively hassle-free. This is a crucial advantage over some of the more niche European competitors in the segment.

Positioned against rivals like the KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3, and Kawasaki Ninja 300, the TVS RTX 300 manages to carve out its own space by offering a feature-rich package at a competitive price. It is neither the most aggressive nor the most docile in the category, but it offers a middle ground that can appeal to a wide range of riders—from young enthusiasts to mature daily commuters looking for an upgrade.

TVS has demonstrated with the RTX 300 that it can compete in the premium motorcycle space with confidence and flair. It is a bike built for the modern motorcyclist: someone who values performance, style, and technology in equal measure. By combining local manufacturing expertise with global design sensibilities and engineering standards, TVS has not only expanded its portfolio but also raised the bar for what an Indian manufacturer can achieve in the sub-400cc segment.

Overall, the TVS RTX 300 is a well-rounded motorcycle that blends performance, practicality, and value. It is a machine that reflects TVS’s growing ambitions and its ability to deliver motorcycles that meet international standards while catering to the specific demands of the Indian market.
